Potter's Craft Cider
As is always the case, we make ciders that we ourselves want to drink. It so happened that as the blaze of summer approached, we looked at each other and said (almost in unison) 'Grapefruit! Let's make a grapefruit cider'. We have a small quantity of apple brandy on hand, we send finished hard cider to Woods Mill Distillery in Nelson County, VA, and they distill it into flavorful, aromatic apple brandy. While we are not licensed to sell our apple brandy (although I wish that we could because it is DELICIOUS), we are able to use it to fortify ciders. In addition, we are able to take fresh fruit (when it is in season), soak it in our brandy, and infuse it back into our ciders. This has served as an excellent method for creating new flavors and incorporating fruit character that works harmoniously with the distinct apples in our ciders. Add grapefruit peels and hibiscus petals soaked in apple brandy, grapefruit essential oil (steam distilled from white grapefruit skins) and et voila! With juicy grapefruit aromas, bright acidity from the Gold Rush apples, and a pale pink color from the hibiscus petals, it is satisfying every bit of our summertime jonesin' for grapefruit. Despite its refreshing drinkability (sorry, I hate that word) and the fact that it is not loaded with sugar (in fact, like our other ciders it has ZERO residual sugars), please beware of its 9.5%ABV! Grapefruit Hibiscus will be available seasonally on draft and coming soon in 500mL bottles as part of our upcoming Sapling Series release!
